Miguel Santos B.A, M.A (b. 1991, Toronto, Ontario) is a photographer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Of Portuguese-Canadian decent, Miguel developed a mutual appreciation for timeless European editorial and the beautiful-yet hostile environmental elements readily found in Canada. His work is characterized by layered compositions, painterly colours, dynamic storytelling, and a comforting nostalgia.

Miguel’s passion for photography began in his early 20s after his father gifted him his old Canon AE-1 film camera. The legacy of learning on an analog camera continues to influence Miguel’s photographic process, specifically his methodical approach, penchant for older equipment, and love for the darkroom.

Miguel’s love for photography was initially developed through a contrasting passion for adventurous landscape photography during long camping trips and fast-paced street photography. From there he refined a style of combining natural, roughly hewn environmental elements with fine art studio concepts. In this way, he enjoys fusing unique combinations of colour, movement, scale and textures found in nature, with artistic lighting and styling reminiscent of the fashion and editorial works that inspire him.
